Nilosplace

Nilosplace was created by Olin Blodgett to index files on the local network. Since Nilo has graduated he no longer maintains the index, but does still host his popular message board.

Nilo says:

This is how I became to fame at Southern. I was on the network early when the network was only in A, B, and C wings of Talge. I downloaded music like my harddrive was empty, when it got full I bought more, for 3 years I had the largest share collection of stuff in the dorm, my collection had grown to 40+ GB of mp3s, 100+ GB of movies, 75+ GB of music video's. Well it got to that point that I reallized, OH maybe I should start listening to all this. Well the music was VERY unsorted so I spent the next summer and school year writting code and web pages to index my own stuff. Those were the days when you could actully download Nilo's mp3s. Anyway after that I had (was asked nicly) to take down the mp3s section for obvious reasons. So I said to my self... if I can't share my stuff then im going to share everyone else's stuff. Thats when I started developing the Indexor. Based on my previous work but on a much much bigger scale. Well time ran out and I graduated right before I was going to release Indexor 2. It was a much more robust program I have yet to finish it. The only place I can test it is on the Internet and well people like to send email when they see you connection to 1000's of computer in their network. So the only thing that's left behind is the message board (one sunday's coding adventure). Nilosplace will always be alive but users seem to be dwindling.

snid.us

SNID the Southern Network Index Database catalogs files on the network. It adds new features such as the ability to search by file type. It also does not display duplicate files. The site is somewhat in beta, so there may be some bugs, but it now runs on Ubuntu just like Dormsearch.

dormsearch.us

DormSearch indexes files on the local network and makes them easy to search for. It also includes all search features snid uses, such as searching by "file type" and "date created". Often it is faster than Snid. It is not available outside of the Dorms because of security concerns.

The dormsearch server is run and maintained by SAU students. It uses Ubuntu, with all open source tools (lighttpd, mysql, perl scripts, cron jobs). Scanning the entire network takes around 3-5 min.

room2593

The blogs at room2593.com are written by two students living in Talge Hall, room number 2593. The site is quite young, and though the content may be lacking now, Curtis Prevo and Robby Van Arsdale plan to post a series of videos, "The Alistair Watkins Show," a sort of comedic sit-down interview style show. Curtis and Robby also post other artistic material as well: Curtis has posted some piano arrangements and compositions, and both roommates show off photography and graphic design.

OpenHisWord

OpenHisWord is a religious-themed site for people to talk with each other about the Bible or about life. There are forums to join, with special sections especially for Southern Adventist University students. It was also created and is kept up by Curtis Prevo.
