Praise: John Beckett has been doing computer work for Southern since the late 70's. His knowledge of PC hardware makes him an excellent source for information in that general respect. Also, being an avid web programmer and unix affecianado makes Beckett the constant target for packet sniffing by the graduate students.

Criticism: John Beckett does not have a large amount of experience in the teaching field, and it shows. His test questions are ambiguous and his homework usually consists of busy work. His knowledge of a subject is mostly limited to what the book teaches combined with the occasional "when I was in IS..." stories. If a student has any prior knowledge of the subject matter, they will not glean much new information from any of his classes. However, as he teaches each class, he gains knowledge both from the students and the teaching experience.
