Stores
(online and walk in type)- [irvs.capclear.com]seems good, haven't looked at it much though.
- Karst Sports Very reasonable prices and a wide range of selection. Excellent customer service, fast shipping. Their specialty is large/bulk orders, but happily fill even single item purchases. They just may become your favorite online store also! Online is recommended--the store itself is in West Virginia.
- On Rope 1 A locally owned bussiness. They have excellent customer service and will custom make many items for you. Prices are average to low. If they don't have your item in stock they can find whatever you're looking for. These guys will go the extra mile for you. Buy online or visit their store at 5940-C Hwy 58 in Harrison. Phone #423-344-4716
- Directions: Turn left at the duckpond and continue straight until Little Debbie Parkway. Turn right until the road 'T's, then go left. Go under the I-75 bridge and turn left again. Continue until you come to a 'T' looking over Harrison Bay. Turn left and continue until you see Family Dollar and Papa Johns on the left. Their showroom is in the same mini-mall strip there. Total distance from SAU: 12 miles.
- 4 Bob and Bob The Largest U.S. Supplier of Caving Equipment. Call Toll Free: 800 262-2283 e-mail:4bobandbob@4bobandbob.com This place has good prices on stuff on caving gear. They have a TON of things on their website (which can be cumbersome to navigate) but good guys and hey, they're cavers so they have to be cool.
- Eastern Mountain Sports This retailer, located from MD - ME and everywhere inbetween offers some great gear at a great price. They have a lot of their own brand gear, its great stuff (comparable to TNF, Mt. Hardware, etc.) but less than 1/2 the price. so if you don't have to have what everyone else does... check them out.
- REI A little spiffier store, good product choices but expect to pay a little more. Online is always accessible; the closest physical outlet is in Nashville.
- Rock Creek Browse their online store, or visit their showroom near the mall. They also have a kayak specialty store downtown near the Walking Bridge. They are a chain here in the southeast. Prices are average to high, but frequently will have sales. Good selection from what I've seen, and knowledgeable staff that are upbeat and happy to help. List of stores
- Campmor.com Retail and wholesale prices on tons of stuff. 'nuf said.
- E-bay Can't forget the classic! Just remember that returns are difficult, and the history of a lot of gear can not be checked or guaranteed. Other than that, there are great deals much of the time. Customer service and shipping depend on the seller.
- Mountain Equipment Co-op Canadian based company. The prices listed in Canadian would (number wise) often be a sale in American dollars. The fact that prices are listed in Canadian makes the deal even sweeter. The only catch is this is a co-op, you must join in order to purchase. The savings on this site greatly outwiegh the membership fee though. Moral of the story--this site is well worth your time and money. Especially watch the "gear swap" for rock bottom deals. One word of warning--some products can only be shipped within Canada.
- Backpacking web picks A web site with links to tons of stores and informational sites.
